The Foundation: Early Experience
Pat's career in construction is rooted in his childhood. Working on a farm instilled in him the value of hands-on problem-solving, which led him to join his uncle’s construction crew at the age of 14. During his summers, he gained foundational skills in roofing, siding, remodeling, and general construction alongside family and local contractors.
Building Expertise
As a young adult, Pat first worked in welding at companies like Bituma Manufacturing and Featherlight. He soon migrated to masonry, where he worked for Rusty Berger Masonry for several years. Crucially, he spent his weekends taking on a variety of side jobs and acting as a subcontractor on many projects. This allowed him to soak up a wide range of expertise from master tradespeople, expanding his skills beyond masonry and welding.
Founding Stone Construction LLC
In 2001, Pat decided to focus solely on his own business. Charging a 32-foot ladder from West Side Lumber to shingle the Sattre Store, he officially went independent. Pat quickly built a reputation for specializing in challenging jobs that other contractors were reluctant to take. This dedication and wide-ranging expertise have fueled his growth into Stone Construction LLC, which now brings a crew with a significant combined experience to every project.
With over 50 years of experience in sales and management in the lumber industry, I have established myself as an expert in the field. My early career began with carpentry work in the late 60's in the Waukon area, followed by a transition into retail sales during the early 70's. As the years went passed, I delved further into the lumber business, starting with the Lumber Yard in the mid-70s and eventually taking on the role of Lumber Company Manager from the late 1970s for both Great Plains Supply and Spahn and Rose Lumber.
Throughout my years in the industry, I have also honed my skills in drafting and home design, successfully completing many projects based on my own drawn plans. With a vast range of expertise in the construction industry, including agricultural structures, home additions, and cabinet plans, I am equipped to handle any building project with professionalism.
In the early 2000s, I served as the Midwest Sales Manager for a leading floor truss manufacturer and distributor, further expanding my knowledge and experience in the field. Now semi-retired, I have spent the last 10 years using my expertise to help a local lumberyard, and am currently applying my skills and passion for sales and design at Pat Stone Construction.
As part of my role, I am responsible for plan designs, estimating, and sales, utilizing my training and passion to provide the best possible service to our clients. With every project, I strive to ensure the highest quality and customer satisfaction, making use of my extensive experience and expertise. Overall, I am dedicated to continuing my lifelong passion for the lumber industry, and delivering exceptional service in my part-time role.
